Understand first

About Sam
Sam brings deep subject knowledge, warmth and clear direction to every lesson.

Sam completed a PGCE in English, Drama and Media in 2001 and gained Qualified Teacher Status in 2002. She has 24 years’ teaching experience and renews an enhanced DBS check annually.
For three years, Sam has marked AQA English Language Paper 2 and completes AQA training every year. That experience helps learners understand what assessment objectives look like in their own writing. It does not imply endorsement by AQA.
Teaching approach
Sam listens to the learner, finds the gaps and adjusts the pace.
Skills are broken into clear steps with purposeful practice.
Support and challenge work together; neither replaces the other.
Teaching experience
Sam’s experience includes Islington Green School (now City of London Academy Islington), Park View Academy, Mount Carmel Catholic College for Girls (the historical name before its 2017 closure), East Barnet School, Varndean School, Peacehaven Community School and Longhill High School. She also taught adult community English at Park View, including parents with little or no English.
Names reflect the schools as they were known during Sam’s work there; historical changes were checked against government and local-authority records.
